MADRID, Spain — Residents and visitors in central Madrid have encountered volunteers sharing educational resources on human rights as part of a Scientology-supported initiative.

Through direct conversations with pedestrians and the distribution of educational leaflets, news eu commission participants introduced the public to the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The activity coincided with public discussions in Spain's capital about housing, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. The educational campaign was independent of the housing demonstrations.

The volunteers used resources from internationally established human rights education programmes supported by Scientology. The publications introduce fundamental principles including non-discrimination, freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and the right to education.

Among its provisions, the Declaration addresses housing under Article 25 and the role of human rights education under Article 26.

According to Ivan Arjona, who represents Scientology before the EU, OSCE, Council of Europe and United Nations, human rights education supports civic responsibility and mutual respect.

The programme forms part of the Church of Scientology's wider support for human rights education, rooted in the importance L. Ron Hubbard placed on fundamental freedoms.

By meeting people in public spaces, volunteers sought to make human rights information more accessible beyond classrooms and institutions.
